All our Resource teachers (orthopedagogues) are members of the Association des Orthop\u00e9dagogues du Qu\u00e9bec.<\/em><\/p>\n

What is orthopedagogy?<\/h3>\n

According to the Association des orthop\u00e9dagogues du Qu\u00e9bec, orthopedagogy refers to the science of education, the purpose of which is to evaluate and intervene with respect to learners likely to have strengths and difficulties in school learning, including learning disabilities. The Resource teacher bases his or her practice on research in orthodidactics, didactics, pedagogy and cognitive science.<\/p>\n

In other words, an orthopedagogue evaluates and intervenes with students who have learning difficulties or disorders.<\/p>\n

The orthopedagogue generally begins his or her interventions by assessing the student\u2019s difficulties, particularly with regard to his or her knowledge, strategies and cognitive processes in reading as well as writing and mathematics.<\/p>\n

The assessment<\/u>\u00a0by the Resource teacher is essential for the continuation of his or her interventions since it targets the objectives to be achieved. These objectives may aim to prevent, rehabilitate or compensate for learning difficulties.<\/p>\n

To who is orthopedagogy intended for?<\/h3>\n

Remedial education services are intended for students who:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Have received an individualized intervention plan at their school<\/li>\n
  • Have difficulties that affect the quality of their academic performance<\/li>\n
  • Have fallen behind in school<\/li>\n
  • Have been diagnosed with a learning disability (dyslexia, dysorthographia, dysphasia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia)<\/li>\n
  • Have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity (ADHD)<\/li>\n
  • Have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Role of the parent or guardian?<\/h3>\n

    The parents of the students followed in remedial education also have a role to play. They are called upon to meet with the remedial teacher after each meeting in order to fully understand what has been worked on and to be able to reinvest this learning at home.<\/p>\n

    The remedial education is reimbursed by certain insurances. Moli\u00e8re and Copernic will issue official receipts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Intervention en orthop\u00e9dagogie<\/h3>\n

    All our remedial teachers are members of the Association des Orthop\u00e9dagogues du Qu\u00e9bec.<\/em><\/p>\n

    A remedial worker is a graduate in special education who offers remedial education services and is guided by a remedial teacher (mentor).
